Application for Sacramental Certificates from the Archdiocese of Newark Archives

Where are Sacramental Records Held?

The Archdiocese of Newark Archives holds the records from many closed parishes, as well as a handful of early registers from open parishes. Below is a table listing the sacramental records in our collection. If the parish where you received your sacraments is not on this list, it is either:

  • An open, active parish which holds its sacramental records at the parish office. In this case, contact the parish directly to obtain your certificate. Information about open parishes can be found at https://rcan.org/parishes/.
  • A merged parish whose records are kept at the combined parish. To check record locations for merged parishes please refer to this page: https://rcan.org/sacramental-records/.
